Faith La Rocque

Sister is pleased to present "Medium" a site specific installation by Toronto based artist Faith La Rocque. For this exhibition, Sister's space is converted into a pseudo psychic window display that parodies the ability to purchase connectivity. This work continues the artist's interest in supplementary health treatments such as bee pollen, mediation crystals, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) lamps and in this case oxytocin; a naturally occurring hormone used by the body to promote feelings of intimacy. Using an intuitive yet critical gaze Ms. La Rocque explores both the material and psychological properties of these evocative objects; imbuing them with beliefs and rituals that they are designed to produce in us.

Faith La Rocque was born in Calgary, Canada, and lives and works in Toronto. She studied Art History and Studio Art at Concordia University in Montréal, and received an M.F.A. from Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland. Solo exhibitions include chisel to carve light thoughts at De Luca Fine Art (2014) and High Acceptance at YYZ Artists’ Outlet (2013) in Toronto. She has participated in group exhibitions, including December’s Letters (Orgy Park, Brooklyn, New York), Star Project (Minokamo Woodland Gallery, Minokamo, Japan); and I’m OK You’re OK: the Art of Self-Improvement (Concertina Gallery, Chicago). La Rocque has received numerous grants and prizes, including the Joseph S. Stauffer Prize awarded by the Canada Council for the Arts.
